“IT WAS ME, IT WAS ME” shouted the man from behind the bars. Startled! the soldier comes to the man who was now not only shouting but trying to break the door open. The man who wasn’t seen showing any sign of emotion for the past 20 years had burst out as strong as ever though he was old. 7 soldiers had to brute him down with all their might to calm this man down. The beast that was sleeping in for the past 20 years had risen. He did eventually calm down but he had shook the whole prison and the authorities. Nobody knew what had him this indocile and intractable.
This man who everyone though had no reason to live for had found one or maybe always had one. That day he was taken to court, chains hanging down from his neck pegged to his arms and legs. They were scared, really scared! that the man who was serene for the past 20 years would become his old self.
The court was to do their formalities, this prisoner was set to be released tomorrow at the crack of dawn. His deadpan face started to shimmer with happiness, trying ever so hard to suppress this emotion his deep dark eyes had become moist. A tiny tear rolled down his feculent cheek. His wait for dawn had started with the howl of the wolf.
Dawn. The longest he had to ever wait for it. This was the moment he would be set free. Free from the rusty bars of the cell. Free from the loud drunk noises of the soldiers. Free from the violent harassment & bullying of the drunk prison mates. Free from being held prisoner. He was going to see daylight, the sun rising and setting-the moon shimmering on the fountain of his house. Most of all he was going to see his wife and his daughter. His family, his life.
Quietly he dressed, new clothes given by the prison authorities. The touch of the textured fabric made him feel lighter, calmer & most of all it made him feel free. He was escorted out. No chains this time, just him and the guard. This was the moment, the guard lowered the gate & the prisoner’s eyes lit up. His heart beat increased and then the moment he had been waiting for forever.
He closed his eyes just as the sunlight hit his prison-beaten face. The darkness in his eyes turned red, the sun shone bright on his face. He took in gulps of fresh air smell of wet mud & soup, far off from soldier’s house. He opened his arms into the sun like a child into its mother’s.
He then walked straight into town & vanished into the sunlight. Leaving behind the dark corridors of the dungeon. Searching for answers unkown he reached the town entrance.
